Bruce Springsteen discography [1973-2022]

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey), nicknamed "The Boss," is an American singer-songwriter who records and tours with the E Street Band. Springsteen is widely known for his brand of heartland rock, poetic lyrics, and Americana sentiments centered on his native New Jersey. Springsteen's recordings have included both commercially accessible rock albums and more somber folk-oriented works. His most successful studio albums, Born in the U.S.A. and Born to Run, showcase a talent for finding grandeur in the struggles of daily American life; he has sold more than 65 million albums in the United States and 120 million worldwide and he has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award. He is widely regarded by many as one of the most influential songwriters of the twentieth century, and in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him as the 23rd greatest artist of all time in its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list.

Bruce Springsteen - The Lost Masters & The Lost Masters Essential Collection [19+4 CD, 2003]

In the spring of 1996, word quickly spread of a 19-CD set called "The Lost Masters" consisting of studio outtakes, home demos, and rehearsal sessions from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band from the years 1977-1983. In addition to the 19 discs, two "Best of" sets would also be released and would include bonus tracks not found elsewhere in the set.The discs were to be released individually in groups of five or so and the first five surfaced in early summer.

The CDs can basically be broken down into 5 segments: Darkness outtakes , River outtakes , home demos , rehearsal sessions and Hollywood Hills garage tapes .

Rounding out the set are the complete Nebraska sessions, Born in the USA outtakes, and "Big Expendables", which consists of studio outtakes from The River, home demos, and rehearsal sessions.

VA - Ladies Sing The Boss (2022) [FLAC]

As one of rock's most prolific songwriters, Bruce Springsteen has covered a lot of bases, building a catalogue of albums that has seen him deliver stadium rockin' anthems and then switch horses mid-stream and riding solo with noir, character-based long players. In the mid-70s, Bruce's songs started to look at where he fitted in (or not). Much of the public's perception of Bruce is wrapped up in his male persona, singing songs about girls and cars, a hyper masculine image. So, how do women relate to this? Part of the inspiration for this compilation came from seeing the all-female Bruce tribute act the She Street Band at the Clapham Grand in 2019 and experiencing how these songs, which I had known all my life, took on another perspective when seen through the filter of a female protagonist. Includes tracks by the Patty Smith Group, Darlene Love, Deana Carter, Cowboy Junkies, Hem, and others.

Bruce Springsteen - Tracks (4 CD, 1998/FLAC)

For years, decades even, Bruce Springsteen was legendary for the amount of recordings he did not release. Every time he cut an album, he recorded a surplus of songs and left some out, not always on the basis of quality, but often because they simply didn't suit the mood of the record. It was inevitable that dedicated fans and collectors would bootleg these recordings, and for many years, he was one of the most popular bootlegged artists, rivaling even Bob Dylan. Dylan released a box set of unreleased songs in 1991, paving the way for the long-overdue appearance of a similar Springsteen set, Tracks, in 1998. Spanning four discs, it isn't entirely devoted to unreleased material -- a few B-sides pop up here and there -- nor is it truly definitive, since it misses a number of key outtakes, plus his original version of "Because the Night," the sole hit for Patti Smith. Instead, the compilation is an unassuming sampling of what's in the vaults, from his early acoustic demos to polished outtakes from Human Touch and Lucky Town. Along the way, there are a number of great songs -- "Bishop Danced" is every bit as terrific as its legend, as are "Thundercrack," "Give the Girl a Kiss," "Hearts of Stone," "Roulette," and many others. Tracks merely offers fans an enjoyably sequenced selection of what was left behind. If the end result isn't as revelatory as some may have expected (even the acoustic "Born in the U.S.A.," powerful as it is, doesn't sound any different than you may have imagined it), it's because Springsteen is, at heart, a solid craftsman, not a blinding visionary like Dylan. That's why Tracks is for the dedicated fan, where The Bootleg Series and The Basement Tapes are flat-out essential for rock fans.

Bruce Springsteen - 1992/12/13 - Boston Garden, Boston, MA (2021/FLAC)

Bruce Springsteen released the live recording Boston 12/13/1992 from the Boston Garden. The Boss previewed the 28-song archival release with “Living Proof.”

The December 13, 1992 Boston Garden show came in the midst of the Bruce Springsteen 1992–1993 World Tour, which saw The Boss hitting the road for the first time without the E Street Band (save for keyboardist Roy Bittan). Bruce had dissolved the band in 1989 and recorded the 1992 companion albums Human Touch and Lucky Town, of which the tour was in support, without his famed backing group.

Bruce Springsteen - The Ties That Bind: The River Collection [4 CD, 2015/FLAC]

Back in 1979, Bruce Springsteen was all set to release the follow-up to the previous year’s Darkness on the Edge of Town. After legal problems made the wait between that album and its predecessor, the breakthrough Born to Run, a long three years – an eternity in the ’70s – Springsteen was more than ready to get back into the studio.

He had written and recorded hundreds of songs for Darkness and its follow-up, which was going to be called The Ties That Bind. The single-record project, like the album before it, took on a somber tone, as Springsteen, approaching his 30s, explored grown-up themes like marriage and responsibility. But something happened on the way to the album’s release. Springsteen pulled the record and decided to revisit the project with more upbeat songs, and ended up with the double-LP epic The River in 1980 instead.

The Ties That Bind: The River Collection — a box set that gathers 52 songs from the sessions on four CDs  tells the story of how one of music’s most determined artists scrapped a great album and replaced it with an even better one. Lengthening the 10-song The Ties That Bind made the double-LP The River a more expansive record, and not just in physical size. By broadening his scope, Springsteen guaranteed The River wouldn’t be just Darkness on the Edge of Town Part II.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – LA Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA - April 1988 (2021) [FLAC]

The Tunnel of Love Express roared across the U.S. in the Spring of 1988. The E Street Band was augmented by The Horns of Love, formerly known as the Miami Horns, lead by Richie “La Bamba” Rosenberg. The band took the stage in pairs, handing tickets to Terry Magovern, Bruce’s legendary right hand man, who sat at a ticket booth dressed as a carnival barker in front of a sign that read: “This is a dark ride.” Clarence strolled out solo and finally Bruce, before launching into a setlist featuring new songs from his recent LP Tunnel of Love as well as deep catalog tracks and rarely performed outtakes and covers.

The second night of a five night stand at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, 4/23/88 features 31 songs, including the debut of “Have Love Will Travel” (a garage rock classic by the Sonics, written by Richard Berry of “Louie Louie” fame) and the first appearance on the tour of “Sweet Soul Music.”
