Overflowing with meticulous attention to detail in sound, text and graphics, this 4-CD set reveals how this iconic musician nurtured those attributes that eventually stood him in such good stead as titular leader of the Grateful Dead, the namesake of the Jerry Garcia Band and the catalyst for the many other collaborative efforts over the course of his thirty-plus year career.

Bob Weir - Ace (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) [2 CD/FLAC-HD]

ACE:50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION pairs a remastered new mix of Bobby’s solo debut with new versions  Bobby recorded earlier this year at Radio City Music Hall with the Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack and special guest guests Tyler Childers and Brittney Spencer.

When Bobby started working on ACE at Wally Heider’s Studio in San Francisco in early 1972, he wasn’t planning for the Grateful Dead to be his backing band. It just happened. “I pretty much knew in the back of my mind what would happen,” Weir told Crawdaddy a few months after the sessions. “I go and get the time booked and start putting the material together. Everybody gets wind of the fact I got the time booked and I may be going into the studio. So, one by one, they start coming around…”

It made sense, the band was already familiar with most of the music, having road-tested six of the album’s eight songs, including “Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Mexicali Blues,” and “Playing In The Band,” destined to become one of Weir’s signature tunes. ACE also marked the beginning of Weir’s long-running collaboration with lyricist John Perry Barlow and includes early standouts “Cassidy” and “Looks Like Rain.”

Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders - Keystone Companions (The Complete 1973 Fantasy Recordings) [4 CD, 2012/FLAC]

The recordings that made up the original Live at Keystone albums by Jerry Garcia, Merl Saunders, John Kahn, and Bill Vitt took place over two nights in July of 1973. The band had been playing a regular gig at the famed San Francisco venue for some time, but it was here that it gelled. Their program was a wide range of covers from Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" to Motown numbers, Bob Dylan songs, jazz standards, and even a wholly improvised jam. Recorded by the Grateful Dead's sound engineers Betty Cantor and Rex Jackson, the first release was issued in late 1973, compiled from the "best" of both nights. In 1988, two volumes called Keystone Encores were released on three discs. This deluxe four-disc package contains remastered versions of all the material from both those concerts presented in original running order.

The informal once-in-a lifetime jam session that brought guitar icons Jerry Garcia and Tony Rice together with their mandolin-picking host David Grisman was recorded in Dawg Studios on two successive evenings in February, 1993. The newly released Extra Large 170-minute edition of this legendary session, includes the entire session with 16 previously unissued alternate takes in addition to the original master takes in their original sequence. This unique collection also features more of the personal repartee, which made the original release so endearing and insightful - the anatomy of this very special jam.

The Allman Brothers Band feat Jerry Garcia - Live at the Cow Palace, New Years Eve 1973 [3 CD, 2015] [FLAC]

Live at the Cow Palace, New Years Eve 1973 captures the entire show broadcast that legendary night more than 40 years ago. Capturing the group almost fully recovered from the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, and with a little help from their friends, they deliver one of their most outstanding performances ever.

By the end of 1973, the Allman Brothers Band were the most popular touring band in America. They drew crowds like few others, on a par with those attracted by the Grateful Dead. So it goes without saying, that when the two groups were on the same bill, pandemonium often ensued. A legendary event at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Racecourse on July 28, 1973, when the Allmans, the Dead and The Band drew an estimated 600,000 people – at the time the largest outdoor rock concert ever – illustrates this point to.

Jerry Garcia - Garcia Live series

Jerome John Garcia (August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for being a principal songwriter, the lead guitarist and a vocalist with the rock band the Grateful Dead, of which he was a founding member and which came to prominence during the counterculture of the 1960s. Although he disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group.
