B.B. King - Ladies and Gentleman... Mr. B.B. King [10 CD, 2012]

B.B. King is one of America's few, long-standing musical treasures whose stature has grown to an unassailable, international level.  His warm, down-home vocal style, his distinctive, talking blues guitar playing, and his songs that sing of love's joys and hardships Sweet Sixteen, How Blue Can You Get?, Help The Poor, The Thrill Is Gone and countless others are all indelibly imprinted elements in the modern musical heritage. Celebrating his 50th Anniversary signing to ABC-Paramount Records in 1962 we bring you this multi-format career retrospective. Leading the way with a slick 10 CD, 194 track collection chronicling his entire career from his first recordings in 1949 through to his most recent studio album.

B.B. King Orchestra - Live At Midem 1983 (2020/FLAC)

B.B. King is hailed as the reigning king of the blues. The Mississippi-born King notched an incredible 74 entries on Billboard's R&B charts between 1951 and 1985, and he was one of the few full-fledged blues artists to score a major pop hit when his 1970 record The Thrill Is Gone crossed over to mainstream success.

Starting out with a radio appearance on Sonny Boy Williamson's King Biscuit Time, it is now more than 45 years since Bill Graham introduced him on the stage of the Fillmore West in San Francisco
where he got a standing ovation before he'd played a single note. It has been said B.B.'s penetration of blues into the musical mainstream can be compared to the contributions of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong in their spheres.

B.B. King & Eric Clapton - Riding with the King (Deluxe Edition) (2020.FLAC)

Riding with the King
is a blues album by Eric Clapton and B.B. King that was released in 2000. It was their first collaborative album and won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.

The potential for a collaboration between B.B. King and Eric Clapton is enormous, of course, and the real questions concern how it is organized and executed. This first recorded pairing between the 74-year-old King and the 55-year-old Clapton was put together in the most obvious way: Clapton arranged the session using many of his regular musicians, picked the songs, and co-produced with his partner Simon Climie. That ought to mean that King would be a virtual guest star rather than earning a co-billing, but because of Clapton's respect for his elder, it nearly works the other way around. The set list includes lots of King specialties -- "Ten Long Years," "Three O'Clock Blues," "Days of Old," "When My Heart Beats Like a Hammer" -- as well as standards like "Hold on I'm Coming" and "Come Rain or Come Shine," with some specially written and appropriate recent material thrown in, so King has reason to be comfortable without being complacent. The real danger is that Clapton will defer too much; though he can be inspired by a competing guitarist such as Duane Allman, he has sometimes tended to lean too heavily on accompanists such as Albert Lee and Mark Knopfler when working with them in concert. That danger is partially realized; as its title indicates, Riding With the King is more about King than it is about Clapton. But the two players turn out to have sufficiently complementary, if distinct, styles so that Clapton's supportive role fills out and surrounds King's stinging single-string playing. (It's also worth noting that there are usually another two or three guitarists on each track.) The result is an effective, if never really stunning, work.

B.B. King - Complete Recordings 1949-1962 [6 CD, 2015]

B.B. King, known as The King of the Blues, and indeed one of the Three Kings of Blues Guitar (along with namesakes Albert and Freddie) was amongst the finest guitarists and vocalists to ever grace the genre. He has featured in Rolling Stone's 100 and Gibson's 50 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, reaching 6 and 17 respectively. Following his first Billboard Rhythm and Blues chart number one 'Three O'Clock Blues' in February 1952, King's career went from strength to strength, helped in no small part by the impressive number of hits he released during the rest of the decade and his extensive touring, which in 1956 reached a record-breaking 342 shows in a single year. In 1962 he recorded Live at the Regal, which is widely considered one of history's greatest blues albums, and one selected for permanent preservation in the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. He received exposure to a rock audience after touring with the Rolling Stones in 1969, and was awarded a Grammy for his 1970 recording of 'The Thrill Is Gone'. King was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Official Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2014. B.B. King remained active throughout the rest of his life, recording regularly and often still playing in excess of 300 gigs a year. In 1997 he performed at the Vatican's fifth annual Christmas concert, presenting Lucille to Pope John Paul II. In 2000, he recorded Riding with the King with Eric Clapton, which would go on to receive the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. King embarked on a farewell tour with Gary Moore in 2006, only to continue working for another decade, famously performing a duet with President Obama at the White House in 2012. Although B.B. had suffered from diabetes for over 20 years, it was only recently that his health began to fail, which forced him to cancel a number of shows in 2014. On 14th May 2015, he sadly passed away at the age of 89.

The Texas International Pop Festival 1969 [13 CD]

The Texas International Pop Festival was a music festival held at Lewisville, Texas, on Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 1, 1969. It occurred two weeks after Woodstock. The site for the event was the newly-opened Dallas International Motor Speedway, located on the east side of Interstate Highway 35E, across from the Round Grove Road intersection.

The festival was the brainchild of Angus G. Wynne III, son of Angus G. Wynne, the founder of the Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park. Wynne was a concert promoter who had attended the Atlanta International Pop Festival on the July Fourth weekend. He decided to put a festival on near Dallas, and joined with the Atlanta festival's main organizer, Alex Cooley, forming the company Interpop Superfest.

Artists performing at the festival were: Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, Canned Heat, Chicago (then called Chicago Transit Authority), Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, Freddie King, Grand Funk Railroad, Herbie Mann, Incredible String Band, James Cotton, Janis Joplin, Johnny Winter, Nazz, Rotary Connection, Sam and Dave, Santana, Shiva's Headband, Sly and the Family Stone, Space Opera, Spirit, Sweetwater, Ten Years After and Tony Joe White.

B.B. King- The Complete 1958-1962 Kent Singles [2 CD, 2017]

Universally hailed as the King of the Blues, the legendary B.B. King's nearly seven-decade career came to a close when he passed away in Las Vegas, on May 14, 2015. One of the most imitated of all the blues giants, King projected tremendous presence on stage, both singing and playing guitar. His musical influence around the world remains incalculable.

King recorded most of his best work between the mid ‘50s and the early ‘60s, including signature tunes and blues staples like “Sweet Sixteen,” “Treat Me Right,” “Peace of Mind,” “Come By Here,” “3 O'clock Blues,” and “Everyday I Have the Blues,” to name just a few. The aforementioned songs, and many others, have been included on this remastered 2-CD set, which compiles all of B.B. King's outstanding songs released on 7” singles (A & B sides) by the Kent label between 1958 and 1962. Contained here is the cream of the crop from B.B. King's hit-making stretch for Kent Records during his most inspired years. Without a doubt, this is the material upon which B.B.'s kingdom was built.
