Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble discography 1983-1991 [SACD ISO]

Double Trouble
is an American blues rock band from Austin, Texas, which served as the backing band for guitarist/singer Stevie Ray Vaughan. The group was active throughout the 1980s and contributed to reviving the blues, inspiring many later blues and rock musicians. Formed in Austin, Texas in 1978, the group went through several early line-up changes before settling on a power trio consisting of Vaughan, Chris Layton (drums), Tommy Shannon (bass). They became a four-piece by 1985 after adding Reese Wynans (keyboards). While with Vaughan the band was billed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Rooted in blues and rock music, the group worked in many genres ranging from ballads to soul, often incorporating jazz and other elements.

Initially a five-piece lineup with Vaughan, Lou Ann Barton (vocals), Fredde Walden (drums), Jackie Newhouse (bass) and Johnny Reno (saxophone), they built their reputation playing clubs around Texas over a four-year period. Molded into a trio (Vaughan, Layton, Shannon), their musical potential was encouraged by producer John H. Hammond, who got the band a recording contract with Epic Records. They gained popularity after their debut album, Texas Flood, became a critical and commercial success in 1983. By the mid-1980s, they had become an international act, touring extensively around the world until August 1990, when Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash after departing East Troy, Wisconsin.

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Transmission Impossible (3 CD/FLAC)

Born and raised in Dallas, TX, in 1954, Stevie Ray Vaughan moved to Austin in 1972 and formed Double Trouble in 1978 where he established the group as part of the Austin music scene, becoming one of the most popular acts in Texas. They performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982 before being discovered by John Hammond, who interested major label Epic Records in signing them to a deal. Within months, Vaughan achieved mainstream success with Double Trouble for the critically acclaimed debut album Texas Flood. With a series of successful network television appearances and extensive concert tours, he became the leading figure in the blues revival of the 1980s. Tragically, Stevie Ray, along with four others, was killed in a helicopter crash thirty years ago, in August 1990. Vaughan s legacy however has remained hugely potent ever since, and he is still generally considered to be the finest rock and blues guitarist since Jimi Hendrix.

This elegant, triple-CD set brings together the finest live broadcast recordings made across his career, which in completion forms a stunning collection of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble s live work.

DISC ONE features a very early show from Double Trouble recorded at The King's Head Inn, Norfolk, VA, on 22nd July 1980, soon after the trio were formed.

DISC TWO brings things forward seven years to when the group played at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA., on 30th June 1987. And concluding this sterling collection,

DISC THREE is one of Double Trouble s final shows as a trio, recorded at The Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI, on 25th August 1990, Stevie Ray s penultimate gig before tragedy struck.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Transmission Impossible (3 CD, 2015)

This 3 CD collection features a triumvirate of live Stevie Ray shows, all taken from FM Broadcasts, performed throughout the period when his star was shining brightest. The first of these, on DISC ONE of this set, is the early show played at the Spectrum in Montreal, Canada, on August 17th 1984, a few months following the release of his second album, Couldn t Stand The Weather, and thus featuring a number of cuts from that record, but mixing it up too with earlier songs and covers. It should be noted this is a completely different show to that now featured on the Deluxe Edition of Couldn t Stand the Weather, which is the late set, albeit performed on the same day The second show.

Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan - In Session (1983/ Hi-Res FLAC)

 In Session
is a blues album by Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded live for television on December 6, 1983, at CHCH-TV studios in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, when Vaughan was 29 and King was 60. It was released as an album on August 17, 1999 and re-released with a supplemental video recording on DVD on September 28, 2010. It has also been released on CD and SACD.

It was the first of two collaborations captured for television, the second being as invited guests on a show led by B.B. King in 1987. It was recorded for one of a series of live television sessions recording the performances of various artists. The show was called In Session. The album includes a few short segments of the banter by King and Vaughan between songs.

Initially, King was not going to do the show as he did not know who Vaughan was. He did not realize that Vaughan was actually 'little Stevie', the 'skinny kid' that he let sit in when King played in Texas. King talks about this on one of the conversation tracks. When he realized who Vaughan was, he agreed to play.

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble /- S.R.Vaughan (3 CD, 2000/FLAC)

Drawn from studio sessions, live performances and rare radio and television broadcasts, these three discs chronicle the brilliant and unbridled career of the uniquely gifted guitar slinger - from unheard early session to the last shows at Alpine Valley and everything in between! Over 4 hours of music, 54 total tracks, 36 unissued performances.

This career-spanning box of three CDs celebrates a legacy that looms larger than that of any blues-rocking guitarist since Jimi Hendrix. Despite fears that a series of posthumous releases had depleted the Stevie Ray Vaughan vaults, previously unreleased gems dominate the selection. Highlights extend from Vaughan's swaggering apprenticeship with Paul Ray and the Cobras to slash-and-burn concert performances from the final month of his life. There are obligatory dips into the songbooks of Hendrix and Buddy Guy, appearances on MTV Unplugged and Austin City Limits, and instrumental interplay with brother Jimmie Vaughan and tourmate Jeff Beck. Though his guitar never loses its flamethrower intensity, the set documents his progression from the showoff licks of the young "Stevie Rave On" into a fully rounded artistry of soulful depth.
