David Grisman Quintet - First Recordings - Live in Dawg’s Living Room (1975/2022) [24-96]

These recently discovered performances are the very first recordings of the David Grisman Quintet, made shortly after Tony Rice’s arrival to join the group in October, 1975. As David states in the liner notes, “Even though this band had been rehearsing for only a few weeks, the energy and spirit of the music was already very focused and exuberant — a pivotal moment in American string band music and my personal musical journey.” In addition to the Dawg, the original members of the quintet heard hear are Tony Rice on guitar, Darol Anger on violin, Todd Phillips on mandolin and Joseph Carroll on bass. The original tape was transferred to the HD format (24 bit, 96khz), and will be of interest to every fan of this ground-breaking ensemble.

Jerry Garcia & David Grisman discography 1991-2012

Jerry Garcia
and David Grisman first met in the parking lot of a bluegrass festival in West Grove, Pennsylvania in 1964. They were both members of Old & In The Way in 1973 and performed together occasionally in other situations. They started performing and recording together in 1990 usually supported in concert by Jim Kerwin (bass) and Joe Craven (violin, percussion). Subsequently they performed live occasionally but recorded many sessions at David Grisman's Dawg Studios. The majority of their releases are drawn from those studio sessions.

Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Tony Rice - The Pizza Tapes - Extra Large Edition [3 CD, 2000/FLAC]

The informal once-in-a lifetime jam session that brought guitar icons Jerry Garcia and Tony Rice together with their mandolin-picking host David Grisman was recorded in Dawg Studios on two successive evenings in February, 1993. The Pizza Tapes CD (2000) which included only part of that historical meeting soon became an acoustic classic and one of Acoustic Disc's most popular releases.

The newly released Extra Large 170-minute edition of this legendary session, includes the entire session with 16 previously unissued alternate takes in addition to the original master takes in their original sequence. This unique collection also features more of the personal repartee, which made the original release so endearing and insightful - the anatomy of this very special jam.

David Grisman- Quintet 80 (Deluxe Edition, 2013) [FLAC]

In early 1980 David Grisman recorded the first of four studio albums for Warner Brothers Records. Quintet ‘80 introduced a newly formed quintet featuring multi-instrumentalists Mike Marshall and Mark O’Connor, bassist Rob Wasserman and founding member Darol Anger on violin and cello. The original LP has been out of print for nearly three decades and this Deluxe Edition presents all of the original master takes plus five previously unissued alternate takes, all newly transferred to the highest quality sound format available.
