2018 marks the 50th anniversary of a pivotal year for Stax Records and for American history: 1968. This period immediately follows the untimely passing of Otis Redding; it s the year that Stax parted ways with Atlantic Records, and it's also when Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis. This 5-disc CD box set compiles every single (A- and B- sides) released on Stax and its subsidiary labels in '68 over 120 iconic songs from era-defining artists, including Otis Redding, The Staple Singers, William Bell, Booker T. and the M.G.'s, Carla Thomas, Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, Isaac Hayes, Linda Lindell, Rufus Thomas and many more.

Memphis Jug Band - Complete Recorded Works Vol. 1-3 (1990-1991/FLAC)

 The Memphis Jug Band was an American musical group active from the mid-1920s to the late 1950s. The band featured harmonica, kazoo, fiddle and mandolin or banjolin, backed by guitar, piano, washboard, washtub bass and jug. They played slow blues, pop songs, humorous songs and upbeat dance numbers with jazz and string band flavors. The band made the first commercial recordings in Memphis, Tennessee, and recorded more sides than any other prewar jug band.

Beginning in 1926, African-American musicians in the Memphis area grouped around the singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player Will Shade (also known as Son Brimmer or Sun Brimmer). The personnel of the band varied from day to day, with Shade booking gigs and arranging recording sessions. The band was as a training ground for musicians who would go on to make careers of their own. 

Sonny Landreth discography [1981-2020]

Sonny Landreth (born February 1, 1951) is an American blues musician from southwest Louisiana who is especially known as a slide guitar player. He was born in Canton, Mississippi, but soon after, his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, before settling in Lafayette, Louisiana. When he is not touring and performing, he resides in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Landreth is best known for his slide playing, having developed a technique where he also frets notes and plays chords and chord fragments behind the slide while he plays. Landreth plays with the slide on his little finger, so that his other fingers have more room to fret behind the slide. He's also known for his right-hand technique, which involves tapping, slapping, and picking strings, using all of the fingers on his right hand.
