Philip Glass- Glass Box : A Nonesuch Retrospective (10 CD, 2008)

Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer. He is considered one of the most influential music makers of the late 20th century. His music is also often controversially described as minimal music, along with the work of the other "major minimalists" La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Steve Reich.

Glass has distanced himself from the "minimalist" label, describing himself instead as a composer of "music with repetitive structures". Though his early mature music shares much with what is normally called "minimalist", he has since evolved stylistically. Currently, he describes himself as a "classicist", pointing out that he is trained in harmony and counterpoint and studied such composers as Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with Nadia Boulanger.

Glass is a prolific composer: he has written works for the musical group which he founded, the Philip Glass Ensemble (with which he still performs on keyboards), as well as operas, musical theatre works, ten symphonies, eleven concertos, solo works, chamber music including string quartets and instrumental sonatas, and film scores. Three of his film scores have been nominated for Academy Awards.

VA- Pioneers Of The Electric Guitar (3 CD, 2013)

If you're looking for a collection of how the electric guitar changed a number of music genres, this is it. This collection does a good job across the entire gamut of the electric guitar, and how it was used in several genres. Included are good/great examples of blues, r&b, jazz, r'n'r, and even a little c&w. The digitally remastered sound is very good overall. The jump from genre to genre can be a bit jarring at times, but marveling at how the electric guitar can so easily fit into so many types of music makes the genre a non-issue. A good example is Disc 2. From "Maybelline" (Chuck Berry), to "Hide Away" (Freddie King), to "Have Guitar-Will Travel" (Scotty Moore Trio), to "West Coast Blues" (Wes Montgomery), to "Out Of Limits" (The Marketts), to "Taking Off" (Milton Brown And His Musical Brownies), To "Miss Ann's Tempo" (Grant Green), to "Guitar Bustin'" (Arthur Smith), to "Nuages" (Django Reinhardt), the scope of this collection is very wide.

Frank Zappa - Halloween 77- Live at the Palladium, NYC [6 CD, 2017]

In October of 1977, Frank Zappa played six shows across four nights at the Palladium in New York. The entire residency, which was chronicled in the concert film Baby Snakes released on Oct. 20 as Halloween 77, in a box set that includes a Frank Zappa costume. The 158 tracks, which were re-mixed last year from the original masterse housed in a USB flash drive shaped like a "Zappa's Oh Punky!" candy bar in 24-bit WAV format.

“This box set was a very special experience for me to work on,” said Ahmet Zappa in a press release. “I wanted to make sure we honored these legendary shows, so it was important to me that this box set felt of the era. It was a blast working with our partners to create the late ‘70s-inspired Frank Zappa mask and costume and the candy-shaped USB stick filled with tons of Zappa goodness. It was yet again a labor of love gathering up all the archival materials, reading notes by people who were there, and most importantly making sure the audio was up to par. All of us at Zappa Records are mighty pleased with it, and hope that fans of Frank Zappa and of Halloween will be too.”

Bukka White - 1968 Memphis Festival & Horizons Sessions [2 CD, 2006]
