Over the course of just five albums released between 1978 and 1983, The Police synthesized
pop, rock, New Wave, and world music sounds including, most notably,
reggae into a style all their own. Incorporating influences of punk and
jazz into the mix, their sound still reverberates today.
Vocalist-bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart
Copeland called it a day before 1986 was out, reuniting in 2007-2008 for
a phenomenally successful tour before going their separate ways yet
again. Their small but significant catalogue has been remastered a
couple of times previously – once in 1995, and again in 2003.
Johnny Winter discography [1969-2018]
John Dawson Winter III (February 23, 1944 – July 16, 2014), known as Johnny Winter,
was an American blues guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and
producer. Best known for his high-energy blues-rock albums and live
performances in the late 1960s and 1970s, Winter also produced three
Grammy Award-winning albums for blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters.
After his time with Waters, Winter recorded several Grammy-nominated
blues albums. In 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of
Fame and in 2003, he was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine's list
of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
Winter was professionally active until the time of his death near
Zurich, Switzerland on July 16, 2014. He was found dead in his hotel
room two days after his last performance, at the Cahors Blues Festival
in France on July 14, at the age of 70. The cause of Winter's death is
not clear.
Humble Pie - Official Bootleg Box Set Vol 1 (3 CD, 2017/FLAC)
Humble Pie’s “Official Bootleg Box Set Volume 1” is
a raw testament to what this band did best; playing bluesy, gutsy,
soulful and often hard rock, live on stage to an adoring audience. Drawn
from a variety of mainly audience recordings that have previously only
been available as “under the counter” pirate releases, this is an
honest, and often unforgiving, tribute to a classic and much missed 70s
supergroup.
John Lennon – The Househusband Years - The Complete Home Recordings 1975-1980 [12 CD, 2015]
This is a collection of John Lennon home recordings at the Dakota
home in New York, Cannon Hill in Cold Spring Harbor (NY) and Villa
Undercliff, Fairylands, Bermuda during the last six years of his life.
All tracks have been remastered and speed corrected from the best
available sources. Some are previously unbooted.
Led Zeppelin - For Badgeholders Only (LA Forum, 21st – 27th June 1977) [18 CD]
Empress Valley’s massive box set For Badge Holders Only
caught collectors by surprise. Nowhere was it ever mentioned this was
in production. This is an eighteen disc plus one DVD box set. It has
two designs on the front cover and each is limited to only one hundred
fifty copies. This is the third time a box set with Led Zeppelin’s
eleventh tour Los Angeles shows has been released. The first was A Week
For Badge Holders (Tarantura T19CD-BOX (T19CD-1~19)). At the time this
was a startling achievement and is an extremely rare piece. However
Tarantura used the first hour of the June 14th New York show for the
June 22nd tape for some reason. After this Power & Glory (The
Diagrams Of Led Zeppelin TDOLZ Vol. 50-55). This was a solid set but
for the June 22nd show they edited in ”Ten Years Gone” from an
alternate source for the June 21st show. Also they used some high
generation tapes which is noticeable especially on the June 25th
concert.
In the intervening decade since the release of the Diagrams set there have been a multitude of releases of the four Millard taped concerts. In the past two years both Wendy and Scorpio issued these shows and both released the Eddie show twice. This set finds partial redemption in issuing the first complete version of the June 22nd show on silver for the first time. Empress Valley are also trying hard to associate this with their excellent Deep Throat boxset, which covers the three Los Angeles shows from 1975 and now commands high prices. What follows are brief comments regarding each of the shows in this set.
