King Crimson - Starless (23 CD Super Deluxe Edition, 2014)

 

Starless is a King Crimson box set that offers an in-depth overview of the band’s celebrated mid-1970′s live line-up at its most exploratory.

When we say ‘in-depth’ that’s what we mean since this set will contain a staggering 27 discs, made of up 23 CDs, two DVD-As and two blu-ray audio discs.

19 of the CDs are of live performance material with a 20th disc offering the 2011 stereo mix of Starless And Bible Black by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp. The other three CDs are described as ‘ bonus’ discs and contain ‘restored soundboard/bootlegs and audio curios’.

Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul - Soulfire Live ! (4 CD Expanded, 2021/FLAC)

 Soulfire Live! is a live album released by Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul in 2018. The album was recorded during various live performances on the Soulfire tour in 2017 and 2018. While the initial release of the album was digital-only, deluxe versions of the album were reissued on CD and vinyl containing additional songs recorded during the tour. A Blu-ray edition was also released, containing video of all of the tracks present on the digital, CD, and vinyl editions. An "Expanded Edition" of the album containing four CDs of material was released on January 29, 2021.

Unlike many men, Alligator Records never forgets an anniversary. "The country's largest contemporary blues label," as it rightly bills itself, has released multidisc compilations celebrating its 20th, 25th, 30th, and now 35th years. Whether reviving the careers of blues rockers (Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanan, Lonnie Mack, Elvin Bishop) or ageing icons with plenty of gas left in their tanks (Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy, Katie Webster, Mavis Staples, James Cotton, Guitar Shorty) or finding new blood to carry on the traditions (Michael Burks, Corey Harris, Dave Hole, Tinsley Ellis, Shemekia Copeland), Alligator sets the standard for what an independent label can achieve. These 35 nuggets extracted from a catalog of 225 albums only begin to tell the label's story, but there's not a weak one in the lot.
