Little Richard - King Of Rock And Roll: The Complete Reprise Recordings [3 CD, 2004/FLAC]

Little Richard was not the only original rock & roller to attempt a comeback in the late '60s and early '70s, but he may have been the one to take the greatest musical risks. Fats Domino merely updated his sound (albeit in a charming fashion), Jerry Lee Lewis refashioned himself as a hardcore country singer, and Chuck Berry pandered with "My Ding-A-Ling," but Little Richard pushed himself on his three albums for Reprise, all of which were collected -- along with his contributions to Quincy Jones' 1972 Dollar$ soundtrack album, non-LP singles, session outtakes, and a complete unreleased album from 1972 called Southern Child -- in 2005 by Rhino Handmade for the triple-disc set The King of Rock and Roll.

War / Eric Burdon and War 1970-2014 [FLAC + 320]

War (originally called Eric Burdon and War) is an American funk band from California, known for the hit songs "Low Rider", "Spill the Wine", "Summer", "Why Can't We Be Friends?, "The Cisco Kid", and "The World Is a Ghetto". Formed in 1969, War was a musical crossover band which fused elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, and reggae. The band also transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up. War was also subject to many line-up changes over the course of its formation, leaving member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan as the only original member in the current line-up.

Although War's lyrics are often socio-political in nature, their music usually had a laid-back, California funk vibe. A particular feature of War's sound is the use of harmonica and saxophone playing melody lines in unison, sounding like a single instrument, for example in the melody of "Low Rider". The music has been sampled and recorded by many singers and groups, ranging from R&B/pop singers such as Janet Jackson to nu metal band Korn and hip hop groups like TLC.

Deep Purple 1968-2021 [FLAC]

With a body of work spanning nearly seven decades, England's Deep Purple are bona fide classic rock royalty. Along with Cream, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, they defined hard rock and early heavy metal. Though their lineup has constantly evolved, Deep Purple effectively made music a career for guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Roger Glover, vocalists Ian Gillan and David Coverdale, and organist/composer Jon Lord. Shortly before his death in 2012, Lord attributed Deep Purple's success in selling more than 100 million albums to "musical restlessness."

The Traveling Wilburys - The Traveling Wilburys Collection (2 CD, 2007) [FLAC + 24/192]

The Traveling Wilburys Collection is a box set compilation album by the British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. It comprises the two studio albums recorded by the band in 1988 and 1990, with additional bonus tracks, and a DVD containing their music videos and a documentary about the group. The box set was released on 11 June 2007 by Rhino, in association with Wilbury Records.

The release was overseen by George Harrison's estate, as the rights holder for the Wilburys' catalogue, and ensured that the band's recordings were available for the first time since they went out of print in the mid 1990s. Two of the bonus tracks were completed for the box set by Jeff Lynne, who co-founded the Wilburys in 1988, and Harrison's son Dhani. The Traveling Wilburys Collection was commercially successful, topping albums charts in Britain, Ireland, Australia and several other countries.

Woody Guthrie - American Radical Patriot (6 CD, 2013)

 Radical American Patriot
is a collection of material recorded "in service" of the U.S. Government. Here are his complete Library of Congress interviews and musical performances recorded by Alan Lomax (released in their entirety for the first time); his songs written while employed by the Bonneville Power Administration, including a previously unreleased, minor key version of "Pastures of Plenty"; a set of previously unheard home demonstration recordings of songs made for a late 1940s public health service VD education program; three radio skits, including two for the Office of War Information during the Second World War; and a number of other radio performances made in support of the war effort. It's a sweeping overview both of a transitional period in American history, and of the prolific, multi-faceted life of Woody Guthrie

VA - Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond, 1964–1969 [4 CD, 2001] [FLAC]

While the original Nuggets compilation concentrated on the American pop and rock scene, the second Nuggets shifted its focus to the rest of the world, collecting cuts from the United Kingdom (such as the Pretty Things and the Small Faces), Canada (The Guess Who and The Haunted), Japan (The Mops), Australia (The Easybeats, The Masters Apprentices), New Zealand (The La De Das and Chants R&B), Sweden (The Tages), Iceland (Thor's Hammer), the Netherlands (Q65, Cuby & the Blizzards and Golden Earrings), Peru (We All Together), Brazil (Os Mutantes) and Austria (The Slaves).

All those who enjoy music richer in energy and daring than intelligence and maturity should add Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond (1964-1969) to their music collection--where it should sit right next to the series' first volume. The lyrics to songs such as "I Can Hear the Grass Grow" and "14 Hour Technicolour Dream" won't unlock life's mysteries, but the reckless abandon with which these songs were written and played will remind anyone how it feels to be young and angst-ridden. A few of the selections, including "Pictures of Matchstick Men," achieved some commercial success upon release; some were covered by bands more recent or lasting than the mostly one-hit wonders who performed the originals; others are so simple they sound like a lot of rock songs; and a number include a distinctive sound or effect other rockers felt compelled to steal. Plenty of songs, though, will be new to all but the most dedicated collectors, and the fact that the best of these didn't make the charts when they were originally released confirms that timing is indeed everything.

Mott The Hoople - The Atlantic Studio Album Collection 1969-1971 (4 CD, 2014) [24-192]

Mott the Hoople were an English rock band formed in Herefordshire. Originally known as the Doc Thomas Group, the group changed their name after signing with Island Records in 1969. The band released albums throughout the early 1970s but failed to find commercial success. On the verge of breaking up, the band was encouraged by David Bowie to stay together. Bowie wrote the glam rock song "All the Young Dudes" for them, which became a huge commercial success in 1972. Bowie subsequently produced an album of the same name for them, which continued their success.

Despite personnel changes, the band had further commercial success with Mott (1973) and The Hoople (1974). Lead singer Ian Hunter departed the band in 1974, after which the band's commercial fortunes began to dwindle. They remained together with continuing personnel changes until their break-up in 1980. The band have had reunions in 2009, 2013, 2018 and 2019.

Lindisfarne - Radio Times: Live At The BBC 1971-90 (8 CD, 2023) [24-44]

Formed in the culturally distinct Tyneside area of England’s North-East in 1968, Lindisfarne blended the mercurial songwriting talent of singer/guitarist Alan Hull with ‘sweet and sour’ harmonies, proud references to their homeland and a boozy, uplifting acoustic-rock swagger that won over the masses in Britain in the early 70s. Their first three albums – Nicely Out Of Tune (1971), Fog On The Tyne (1972) and Dingly Dell (1973) – all went Top 10, with Fog On The Tyne hitting No.1. Two singles also went Top 10 in the UK: ‘Meet Me On The Corner’ (written by bassist/violinist Rod Clements) and ‘Lady Eleanor’ (written by Hull).
