VA - Just A Bad Dream: Sixty British Garage And Trash Nuggets 1981-89 (3 CD, 2018/FLAC)

Sometimes, a disparate crowd of random influences and a handful of scene-makers coalesce out of nothing, and before you know it a movement is happening. So it was in the UK in the early-to-mid- ‘80s, when an unlikely set of bands resurrected the spirit of mid-‘60s Garage Rock.

Fusing that sound with elements of the pre-Fab Four, Psych, Mod, Rockabilly and Psychobilly, and greasing the wheels of this new machine with a thick slab of post—punk sensibility, bands across the UK began to shout and holler like they hadn’t in years, capturing their work on often rough and ready recordings, issued on Big Beat, Hangman, Hit Records, Media Burn, Creation and other equally fried labels. From London, Medway and the South East to Edinburgh and beyond, the Trash movement spread, quickly reaching out into mainland Europe and beyond. Here in the UK, Trash finally enjoyed its moment in the sunshine in 1984, when four of the scene’s key bands appeared on Channel 4’s flagship music show The Tube.

T Rex - 1968 - Prophets, Seers & Sages (2 CD Deluxe Edition 2015) [FLAC]

Deluxe two CD edition contains the mono 2014 remaster of the original album plus a host of bonus material including one non-album single, alternate takes, eight songs recorded for John Peel's 'Top Gear' program, and two songs recorded for the BBC's 'Voice of Pop' program. Disc Two contains 30 alternate takes of the album's songs including 23 previously unreleased. Also comes with a booklet featuring a new essay by respected Guardian critic Mark Paytress. Digitally remastered edition of this album from Marc Bolan's early version of T. Rex. Originally released in 1968 and produced by Tony Visconti, the second Tyrannosaurus Rex album PROPHETS, SEERS & SAGES: ANGELS OF THE AGES firmly cemented Marc Bolan and Steve Peregrin Took as darlings of the London hippie/underground subculture and contained early Bolan classics such as 'Debora robed', 'Salamanda Palaganda' and 'Consuela'.

Jethro Tull - Stand Up (Steven Wilson 2016 Remix) [24-96]

The group's second album, with Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, acoustic guitars, keyboards, balalaika), Martin Barre (electric guitar, flute), Clive Bunker (drums), and Glen Cornick (bass), solidified the group's sound. There is still an element of blues, but except for "A New Day Yesterday," it is far more muted than on their first album, as Mick Abrahams' blues stylings are largely absent from Martin Barre's playing. The influence of folk music also began to manifest itself ("Look Into the Sun"). The instrumental "Bouree," which could've been an early Blood, Sweat & Tears track, became a favorite concert number, although at this point Anderson's flute playing on-stage needed a lot of work; by his own admission, he just wasn't that good. Bassist Cornick would last through only one more album, but he gets his best moments here, on "Bouree."

Frank Zappa - Ryko Remaster Complete Series, [54 albums/71 CD] [FLAC]

Ryko Corporation is a record company that offers more than 1,000 titles in such genres as rock, pop, folk, jazz, blues, country, and world music. The firm owns and distributes several labels including Restless, Hannibal, Tradition, Slow River, and Gramavision, as well as most of the recordings of the late Frank Zappa. Ryko also releases video DVDs and performs distribution of its own and other labels around the United States and in some international markets. The company became part of Warner Music Group in 2006.

Rykodisc's first major coup came when it secured the CD rights to the back catalog of legendary rock satirist, composer, and provocateur Frank Zappa, who owned his own master recordings and had been releasing them on vinyl and tape through EMI. With the latter firm ambivalent about preparing CD releases, he gave the new label a chance based on its early track record. Though Rykodisc had gambled by paying him a large advance, the initial 10,000-disc pressings of 20 different albums quickly sold out when released in 1986, and more Zappa product followed.
