Syd Barrett discography [1970-2010]

Like a supernova, Roger "Syd" Barrett burned briefly and brightly, leaving an indelible mark upon psychedelic and progressive rock as the founder and original singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. Barrett was responsible for most of their brilliant first album, 1967's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but left and/or was fired from the band in early 1968 after his erratic behavior had made him too difficult to deal with (he appears on a couple tracks on their second album, A Saucerful of Secrets). Such was his stature within the original lineup that few observers thought the band could survive his departure; in fact, the original group's management decided to keep Syd on and leave the rest of the band to their own devices. Pink Floyd never recaptured the playful humor and mad energy of their work with Barrett.

Fan-made compilation od early Pink Floyd on BBC

Pink Floyd – The Complete Rainbow Tapes (8 CD, 2011/FLAC)

The Complete Rainbow Tapes is the first time Godfather have ventured into the risky work of boxsets.  They are all around expensive, and oftentimes if an inferior tape is used for even one show then the whole set diminishes in worth to the collector.  Furthermore, many boxsets fail because they collect common material and expect collectors to shell out the money for what they should already have.

Godfather avoid both of these mistakes.  The source tapes in this set are all as good as possible, and most of these shows are extremely rare to find.  Godfather presents the first and definitive versions of these shows in a gorgeous set.  This is one of the best Pink Floyd releases to surface in quite a long time and may go down as one of the best Pink Floyd releases to ever be produced.

Recorded at Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park, London, UK

Pink Floyd - Architects Of Sound: A History Instrumental Of Pink Floyd (10 CD, 2009)

The idea of a compilation of only-instrumental pieces of Pink Floyd may have crossed the minds of several people in different places. But for the time being none has been produced (or released widely). Taking into account that Pink Floyd’s musical virtue has produced some of the greatest instrumental pieces (and certainly not few, but more than “many”), the thought was to create a collection embracing all the instrumental themes they created to gather all this sonic experience in one single place. I believe that this collection, though not necessarily a « necessity » would be a nice addition to any PF fan’s collection, because it is different from other compilations, and it helps to fill a gap that has been empty both officially and unofficially. Until now.

VA - The Many Faces of Pink Floyd [3 CD, 2013] [FLAC]

The Many Faces Of Pink Floyd is a wonderful, truly stunning album... a 3CD labour of love, the likes of which are rarely seen on the market.

CD 1 contains Dark Side Of The Moon (in full) as interpreted by luminaries of the world rock scene (members of King Crimson, Yes, The Doors, Toto and Asia, among others).

CD 2 features ten key tracks of The Wall, two from Wish You Were Here and two psychedelic era classic quartets by musicians such as Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Ian Anderson and British Psychic TV freaks, among many others.

CD 3 meanwhile, is even more spectacular, as it presents material from all the great musicians who participated in the group's record: saxophonist Dick Parry (Money, Us And Them), singer Clare Torry (The Great Gig In The Sky) guitarist Snowy White (the tours of Animals and Roger Waters solo), producer Norman Smith (The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn) and keyboardist Peter Wood (the tour of The Wall) and there are even songs from the obscure bluesmen who inspired Syd Barrett to christen the band: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. With beautifully mastered sound and spectacular cover art, The Many Faces Of Pink Floyd is a unique album, and one that every fan of the group will enjoy, learn from and marvel over.

Pink Floyd - The Massed Gadgets Of Hercules 1970 – 1974 [10 CD bootleg, 2012]

The Massed Gadgets Of Hercules 1970 – 1974

Several Species Of Some Unique Performances Gathered Together In A Box And Making A Joy

(Godfather Records GR BOX 09)

"A Saucerful of Secrets" was originally known as "The Massed Gadgets of Hercules" in its earliest performance and became a Pink Floyd live staple from 1968 until 1972. The subtitle, Several Species Of Some Unique Performances Gathered Together In A Box And Making A Joy is a riff on the Roger Waters song on Ummagumma called “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict.” It’s silly, but in keeping with the bootleggers tradition of coming up with absurd titles for their releases. Given the rarity of this material, this is a very good collection.

The Massed Gadgets Of Hercules 1970-1974 is the amazing new box set by Godfather documenting Pink Floyd’s greatest tangent of creativity from Atom Heart Mother through to Wish You Were Here and Animals.

Four of the five shows have never been pressed on silver disc before and the fifth was released almost a decade ago and is now out of print and impossible to find today. Godfather utilize the best available generations for the shows and all of them are listenable and enjoyable.

Klaus Schulze & Pete Namlook - Dark Side of the Moog [12 volumes, 1994-2008]

Klaus Schulze (born 4 August 1947) is a German electronic music pioneer, composer and musician. He also used the alias Richard Wahnfried. He was briefly a member of the Krautrock bands Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, and The Cosmic Jokers before launching a solo career consisting of more than 60 albums released across five decades.

The Dark Side of the Moog is a Klaus Schulze collaboration with Pete Namlook (joined also by Bill Laswell on volumes 4 to 7). Each title is a distortion of Pink Floyd song and album titles.
